Davis Sanchez Hangs Up His CFL Cleats

Yesterday during the B.C. Lions conference call with the national media, general manager Wally Buono mentioned that Davis Sanchez was set to announce his retirement from the CFL.
Shortly thereafter, it became official as the three time Grey Cup champion leaves the game on-top by being apart of the 2011 championship team.
It could be argued since Sanchez is a Canadian that he defied expectations by being one of the premier shutdown cornerbacks in the CFL. As a result, it enabled the teams he played for to allocate the ratio status elsewhere.
Without question Sanchez has paved the way for many young Canadians defensive backs that they could play at this position. Furthermore, in 2001-2002 his ability enabled him to play with the best in the world as latched on with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.
Even though it was a short stint, Sanchez came back up north and continued his dominance. To show how valuable and desired he was, Montreal Alouettes general manager Jim Popp had Sanchez on the roster three separate times during his career.
The impact Sanchez had on the league was echoed by former Alouettes and current Saskatchewan Roughriders player Paul Woldu who tweeted "inspiration like no other. "
Moving ahead, Sanchez could very well become a football coach, and end up in the CFL ranks down the road. But for now, here is a salute to one of the best ever Canadian players the CFL has seen.

An Early Outlook at The Montreal Alouettes 2012 Season

Welcome back to my musings and observations of the Montreal Alouettes. It has been more than a month since I last penned an article. But my recent commitment was focused to TSN in helping them on their CFL Draft, which was fantastic experience to be apart of.
Now I am back in the forefront, and I’ve realized how fast we’re approaching to the first day of CFL training camp.
As for the Alouettes, a lot has transpired in the last 10-days as the club released many recognizable players who were apart of the glorious Grey Cup teams, the resigning of team president Ray Lalonde, and various other issues pertaining to the team.
Now as for the remodeled franchise, it will be certain that many of its partisans will need on-hand their roster sheet to identify these new and current players who are donning different jersey numbers.
Already the transition has started moving away from the core of the team that was instrumental during the first decade of the 2000s to hopefully cultivating a new generation of Grey Cup runs.
But could there be more potential moves in the horizon prior to training camp?
In conversing with a team member during the winter season, the source strongly felt that the organization would have a new look at certain positions.
Already, general manager Jim Popp has extracted the players that did not fit the team’s 2012 plan of winning the Grey Cup.
Going into this camp, a lot of veterans who have been apart of the organization should realize that there is very little room for error.
Unlike the other CFL teams, the Alouettes have endured an offseason unheard of in the city. With a plethora of assistant coaches pursuing opportunities elsewhere, Lalonde stepping down, an overhaul of the roster, and now their new city sports cousins the Montreal Impact captivating the local audience.
The Alouettes have their work cut out for them on and the off the field. It will be intriguing to see where the team’s goes as a new season is upon the CFL world.
